5 Day Experience in Real de 14 and Wirikuta.

  • 899 pesos mexicanos
  • Real de Catorce, Wirikuta & San Miguel de Allende

Service Description

Deep Inside the Desert is an immersive trip to a remote and legendary region. Real de Catorce, a ghost mining town where the Spanish empire produced the silver REAL, the official coin that traveled from Europe to the Philippines. To get there we have to fly in the morning to San Luis Potosí, rent a car and drive 3 hours up to Real, where the adventure starts. Check in the emblematic Mesón de la Abundancia, a welcome dinner at the Centro Cultural Real de Catorce and early rest. Early in the morning after a light breakfast we jump on the famous 4X4 Willis down to Wirikuta desert, the sacred land of the Wirarika culture aka Huichol Indians, the guardians of Hickuri or Peyote, to visit El Venado Azul, an organization led by a Marakame or Holy Man that has set to preserve the endangered magical cactus. In other words, we are going straight to the source with the man to learn about this sacred plant and spend a day and a night in the desert. Early in the morning, back to Real for a nice breakfast, shower and jump on our boots for an amazing horseback ride straight to EL QUEMADO, the place where the universe started. This is the sacred mountain of Wirarika culture where we will discover its amazing power. Two more days of quiet contemplation, long walks in the mountains, total connection with the energy of this land, a frontier between civilization and the mystical power of the desert. Day five, we drive to San Miguel Allende, the perfect “back to reality” soft landing spot, where we will enjoy first class gastronomic experiences, ride through La Cañada de la Virgen, a canyon used by Indians to travel through the river and discover temples and archeological spots. San Miguel is also a booming cultural town with galleries and whops where shopping becomes irresistible.
